To tie in with National Science Week, we ventured into town today to see the giant moon that is currently on display in Leicester Cathedral. It is a touring piece of artwork by Luke Jerram, a huge sphere onto which is printed detailed NASA photos of the moon's surface. Looking like a giant inflatable beach ball suspended in play under the vaulted ceiling of the cathedral, the effect is quite surreal. I love the idea of two quite traditionally opposed subjects - science and religion - being brought together by an object that has so many of its own myths and stories created around it.
